To new beginnings (Mt. Pilatus)
This painting and B·A·L·A·N·C·E are the result of a one month artist residency in Basel, Switzerland, in January 2017. British private collector David Mee asked me to do two large format paintings for his house in Downtown Basel. The loft was designed by Werner&Herzog, and it has been one of the most inspiring experiences to live and work in this place. The goal was to paint something perfectly balanced, completely inspired by Nature´s proportion of opposites. I had recently made a journey to Indonesia (summer) and Norway (winter), so the idea of opposite landscapes was very fresh.
Mt. Pilatus is a major peak in Switzerland, and I had the opportunity to visit it during my stay. I remained so touched by the magnificence of this place, that I had no doubt: I had found the perfect way to represent Winter.
